Toledo Bend #1 Bass Lake in USA
Bassmaster Magazine announced on June 18, 2015 that Toledo Bend Reservoir is the NUMBER ONE BASS FISHING LAKE IN THE USA. Toledo Bend Lake is the largest man-made body of water in the South and the 5th largest in surface area in the USA with a controlled storage capacity of about 4.5 Million Acre Feet of water. The idea for Toledo Bend was begun in 1948 and the 186,000 acre lake was dedicated in October of 1969. In 1985 the stocking of Florida Bass was begun in the lake by Texas Parks and Wildlife and in 1990 the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries built and managed fingerling ponds through 1997 together with the Sabine River Authority of Louisiana and the Toledo Bend Lake Association. According to the Waterbody Management Plan over 26 Million Florida Bass fingerlings were stocked over a period of 28 years. Since 2006, 453 Lunker Bass (10 pounds or over) have been registered (and released) with 81 of those last year ranging from 10.16 to 12.81 pounds.
